This post is the fourth in a series in which we reached out to municipal candidates to ask their heritage platform. Responses will be posted in the order received.
Linden Crain was the fourth candidate to respond. He is running for Deputy Mayor in Town of Amherstburg
Please note: I shared with the candidates that Adam Coates and the Town of Amherstburg’s Heritage Committee have been nominated for a Carlos Ventin Award for Municipal Heritage Leadership from the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario. Linden Crain is currently a Councillor in the Town of Amherstburg and is a member of the Heritage Committee.
My position is that the Town should actively pursue a sustainable long-term solution for Belle Vue, including the potential sale of the property to an appropriate private owner or a partnership with a private developer.
I do not believe the best solution is for the Town to continue owning the property indefinitely while its condition deteriorates or while taxpayers are faced with substantial restoration costs. If credible private interest comes forward with a responsible plan that protects Belle Vue and gives it a viable future, I believe Council should be prepared to seriously consider it.
Picture of Linden Crain was sent to me by the candidate during the last election.
