It was a rite of passage for Amherstburg kids to work on Boblo. By the time I was old enough to work, we’d moved to Windsor but we’d go back multiple times in a summer and take the boat from the Boblo Dock. It was always a great time to walk through and see all of the kids I’d played street hockey and gone to school with. Lots of kids when they move lose touch with everyone in the old place. I was lucky in the regard that I got to see them and wound up dating and marrying a girl that I’d known from the early days in Amherstburg. In the early days, she and I visited the island on dates and our first kiss was on the Boat coming back from a long day of fun at the park.
