This post is the first in a series in which we reached out to municipal candidates to ask their heritage platform. Responses will be posted in the order received.
The first to respond was Holger Kretschmann, Candidate for Amerherstburg Town Council. The responses are in the candidates own words only slightly edited in a way that doesn’t in any way change what they said.
Growing up in Germany I was surrounded by wonderful buildings reflecting the past and newer buildings showing the modern side.
Unfortunately, we do not have to many Heritage buildings here in Essex/ Amherstburg. However, we need to work hard to preserve the few that we have to show the new generation part of our past. I see these building as part of the education programs that schools should have so that the students at least get some understanding on how people lived in the past and also the workmanship that the trades people had then.
I am all for supporting the restoration and preservation of our heritage buildings.
