This post is the thirtieth in a series in which we reached out to municipal candidates to ask their heritage platform. Responses will be posted in the order received.
The thirtieth to respond was Joanne Gignac, Incumbent for Windsor City Council – Ward 6. The responses are in the candidate’s own words only slightly edited in a way that doesn’t in any way change what they said.
I am delighted to be currently working with the owners of the Monarch Liquours building and City Administration to ensure restoration of this wonderful building…one that I have admired as a historical gem in the old Town of Riverside since childhood. Heritage buildings add to the story of our neighbourhoods and in this instance if the walls of this building could talk they would share some incredible tales!!! I support their preservation, when structurally sound, and think the many instances of reuse here in the City is encouraging developers/owners to look at opportunities for redevelopment in new and unique ways. Keep your eyes on this building for a wonderful restoration!
