This post is the twentieth in a series in which we reached out to municipal candidates to ask their heritage platform. Responses will be posted in the order received.
The twentieth to respond was Patricia Simone, Incumbent for Amherstburg Town Council. The responses are in the candidate’s own words only slightly edited in a way that doesn’t in any way change what they said.
Heritage, in the Town of Amherstburg, should be celebrated and preserved when possible, as heritage is an important community asset.
As the current council representative on the Heritage Committee, I have had the privilege of learning and hearing from my fellow committee members, and staff members, about the history and heritage of Amherstburg.
I believe Amherstburg should consider and implement cultural heritage landscape strategies. Adaptive reuse is a wonderful way to give old buildings new life.
My favourite memory of Amherstburg, is from my move to Amherstburg at the age of 10. The beauty of the town and the friendliness of the residents remains today.
