Amherstburg had a unique smell of baking bread when I was a child. Anywhere you walked into the downtown or by the water, the smell of Marra’s Bread enveloped the area. A standard field trip for school was to visit the bakery and they would give us delicious treats to take home. They had the most unique bread. The kind of bread you might not find today. Whenever I smell baking bread I think of my childhood and of the wonderful sandwiches that my mom would make a pair with her homemade tomato soup. It was a sad day when the bakery closed.
